The Virginia Food System Council and partner organizations continue to encourage individuals, families, households and businesses to make the pledge to grow Virginia’s economy through the $10 a Week Challenge to Eat Local Buy Local!
In just a short time since the launch of the challenge, Virginia households, along with 16 businesses and organizations, have pledged to spend $337,168 more per year on Virginia’s local economy. Many of these households and organizations reported that prior to making the pledge they were already spending $730,496 annually on Virginia-grown food.
Additionally, 31% of those participating in the challenge reported that before taking the pledge, they spent less than $5-a-week on Virginia-grown food. With these emerging results and economic benefits from the $10 a Week Challenge, please take some time and make your own pledge today!
“Life is no brief candle to me; it is a sort of bright torch which I have got hold of for a moment and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.” ~ George Bernard Shaw, Irish playwright and economist.
